“I’ve been thinking, Gemma.” I say as we climb the stairs. “I think you should change your mind.”
“About the new job?”
“Yes.”
I mean it. It’s been three years; I can’t imagine her being somewhere else every day. Since she handed in her notice she’s been happy, relaxed and fun, like old times.
”I’m sorry, it’s too late now.”
“Oh.” I pause. “That’s the only reason you won’t change your mind though, right?”
Real life’s not like movies. People catch planes, move town, and last minute pleas in the airport don’t work. She smiles.
“Yes. That’s the only reason.”

The sweetness of your friendship shines through in this one. I smiled.
By the way, I'm guilty. I've done a couple of those 100 Word posts, and I've linked back to you in each one. I think it's fun to challenge yourself that way. (Thanks for not getting mad at me for it. Some people would, and I would completely understand.)
So glad you are still doing these-they are a fascinating discipline and you have reminded me how useful they are; not only to fill a spot when ideas dry up, but as a writing tool...who, what, where, when and why...in 100 words.
So much there. I have a million questions...

"Real life’s not like movies. People catch planes, move town, and last minute pleas in the airport don’t work." ~ So true, so true.
As always, a beautiful piece. I will miss your stories of Gemma, hopefully you two will keep in touch outside of the work arena.
100 words: lipstick.
I can't wait.
I really liked the last paragraph and that last line of dialog...very poignant.
I agree with Harmony, that line really hit because it's so true.
...and I must admit I do 100 words occasionally, something I started in English class a few years ago (but felt like a copycat when I started posting them. :P) Always fascinating to see what people decide to be the most important sentences to share.
Loved this.
Simple sweet. Really enjoyed this 100. ;)
Thanks for the comments on this one.
Nessa - You’re not guilty, I like seeing other people do 100 Word blog posts. Most of the ones I’ve seen have been very good. Not mad at all, though it’s always lovely to be credited. Glad you liked this one.
Moannie - I don’t really see them as a tool or a way to deal with writers’ block. I mean, they are both those things but I do them because I have a little idea to express and I like seeing if it will work as a miniature. Don’t get me wrong, I’d never try and publish them but I like doing them and I hope people like reading them.
Pearl - Ask away.
Harmony - I will miss them too. I hope we’ll stay in touch, but you never really know until you stop working with someone what will happen.
Molly - You might be waiting a long time, not a subject I know anything about!
Robbie - Thank you, I’m glad it worked for you.
lladybugg - Not at all, it’s not being a copycat. It’s not as if I invented the idea, it’s just that I never saw any of them on blogs before I started doing them over two years ago. The more the merrier.
Jayne - Thank you. Sometimes they are just uncomplicated and sweet (but not very often).
I was pretty sure this is how you felt (wouldn't have expected anything less).
100 words is a very interesting, constricting practice ... definitely a challenging way to train yourself to pick the right words for the message you want to convey.
These 100 words are brilliant. Not because of the challenge it is but because it looks at a moment. One simple moment in a long life. It can kinda make you appreciate the little things that there are in this ever faster, ever growing life. And although it will never be like the movies, it is almost a movie in itself. One forever rolling on you. Made my night because of the thought. Thank you.
This one read shorter than your usual 100 words, but I liked it. A charming moment between friends.
Aw it's too bad Gemma is leaving. I hate being the leftee, even in a job situation. (Leftee is probably not a word).
Well with all that's going on here, I won't have time to read all the posts I missed, but I'm off to read Grandstanding.
I have made another 100 words post. You have been given credit for the idea of course. I would love for you to read it.
