100 Words: Peer pressure

I was very proud of the shirt, a short-sleeved blue and orange check, not at all the sort of thing I normally bought.

My mistake was wearing it to work on Friday.

"You look like you've been run over by a paint truck." said Mikey over the first pint of the weekend.

"Don't say that!"

"No, it's nice." he grinned. "You should be presenting an art show on kid's TV in that."

On Monday, to make him feel guilty, I told him I'd taken it to the charity shop.

"Good." he said.

I hadn't. But I haven't worn it since.

You really are very good at this MLS. Small but perfectly formed.

Thanks Sharon. Quite a few people have started doing the 100 Word posts recently (I think Bag Lady has made them quite popular!) so it felt a bit odd to be writing one again.

I'm one of those few people who have started writing the 100 Word posts and I think you're doing much better job than most of us.
if you're interested, here's my recent 100 Word post: http://bit.ly/hfdoUR

I've started posting my 100 word efforts too, but I was definitely inspired by you.

I used to succumb to peer pressure but now I just do what I want to do. I just figured life was too short to waste it worrying about what other people thought of me and what I wear/do. Really enjoyed this post though.

Lots of people have started, eh? Well if there's one thing I love it's jumping on a good bandwagon.

Love this cute story. And I say, wear those kiddie colors proudly!

Love these, well I love everything that you write but do not have your facility to bring everyday happenings to life and JP is only funny once in a blue moon.

These are not easy, I've tried so I know there is a discipline to them that 'don't come easy'. But between reposting 'all' my old posts and trying to squeeze something out for the new blog, these might be the answer.

Wear the shirt and shame the devil.

Haha, I got the giggles from this. I bet it's not all that bad...

Blue and orange check. Blech. :)

Lovely change in pace to have one of your perfect 100 words posts.
About that shirt.
Blue and orange check sounds fine but short sleeves?
Sorry. That style always reminds me of my Dad :)

Could you put a linky thing on your site so we could join up with other 100 word participants and read their stuff too?

Will that shirt ever come out of the closet?

Jayne said...

I agree with Moannie. But wear a long sleeved T-shirt under it. Styling.

Blue and orange can be risky, but it doesn't have to be bad. I'm remembering your article about men's wear and thinking you probably could have pulled it off.

I tried my hand at this just now and not sure how you squeezed a dialog in. It is tougher than it looks. Cool idea though..

Peers are people one pretends to regard as one's equals.

Wow. I just invented the perfect response to the 100 Word Post – the 10 Word Comment. Well, until I added this stuff. Damn.

Thanks everyone who’s commented so far.

Starlight - Thank you. I’ve been doing them, on and off, for eighteen months so if I was bad at them now it would be time to give up. I’d already read yours which I enjoyed.

HF&I - Thanks, I thought yours was an interesting take on the 100 Words theme. I hope you try it again in future.

Dani’sfadingmargins - Oh, it’s not like it’s a bandwagon - loads of people have done this long before me and I’m sure they’ve done it in blog posts too. But anyway, I recommend giving it a go. It’s an interesting, challenging way to write and when you do it right - or feel like you do - it has all the satisfaction of a crossword puzzle or a tricky sum. And you always write more than 100 words and then have to choose what to leave out.

Moannie - Thank you. I feel like it’s all been everyday happenings lately, but I suppose I can only write about me, I can’t write about the extraordinary or the supernatural. There’s definitely a discipline to the 100 Word posts; I like it, but it’s not for everyone.

Jennifer - No, I don’t think it’s that bad. And there’s less orange in it than my brief description might suggest.

OWO - I bet you’d like it really.

Jane - You can’t not wear short-sleeved shirts in summer, really. I’m glad you liked the 100 Word post, I haven’t done one for a while. People stopped suggesting topics, which doesn’t help.

Mrs A - If I knew how, I would! But actually very few people have tried them, so I’m not sure it’s worth it anyway.

Amelia - Thanks! Maybe next summer, when everyone’s forgotten.

Sally-Sal - See above. Nice to see you back around and commenting.

Jayne - Yes, layering. It’s the way forward. Thanks for commenting! I thought your review on AAYSR was a little mean, if anything.

Lady Jennie - Yes, I apparently have plenty of aplomb. Keep your eyes peeled for my floral shirt expose at some point.

Shopgirl - They're fun, aren't they? I enjoyed yours. Once you've written it it's an interesting exercise thinking "Are those the right words? Can I use that space better some other way?"

FigMince - That's a very Wildean summary of yours. A little mean-spirited though, surely?

Okay, how about:

Peers are people who pretend to regard one as an equal.

What sorts of things does your colleague wear, I wonder?

Hello...I have done two 100 words post and can say it's not as easy as it looks...which also forces me to say that you are really really good with the 100 words post... its like you get a complete story told in those 100 words...As to the subject of the post...I have had a similar experience...there's an expensive dress I've stashed away coz one of my friends decided to be brutally honest...:(
Sorry about the real looong comment, got carried away I guess...

Your 100 words feel like looking up at a very tall mountain, to me. I'll be learning a lot from you, I see.

Mr London Street said...

FigMince - That's better!

Lewis William - You're back! Excellent. The colleague in question wears Fred Perry and a leather jacket much of the time.

caterpillar - Thank you. Like I said, I've been doing it for eighteen months. You should see some of the early ones! Don't apologise - I like long comments and they're never boring.

Erroneous Maximus - Love the moniker. Thanks very much for saying such a nice thing, but I doubt anyone learns much from me. As long as they enjoy what I write, that's good enough for me.

Been there done it and also failed to wear the T-shirt
