The orange bus trundles round the coast road. Forty year old aircon does its best to cool down a stodgy collective of Brits, most of whom are older still.
Up on the hillside, half-finished houses gaze blankly out to sea like concrete skulls.
"I’ve figured out why holidays suit me. It’s because they involve eating out every night and not having to drive anywhere."
Kelly half-smiles at me. She’s inscrutable behind her tortoiseshell sunglasses but, if I am any judge, her expression is half indulgent, half exasperated.
"It's true. I suppose you are on holiday pretty much all the time."

Cute. Kelly's funny!!
Nice one Kelly! Enjoyed this post :-)
Welcome back! Did you manage to relax?
Blissed-Out Grandma - Sort of, some of the time.
I'm with Kelly. Being nominated driver on a night out is SUCH a pain in the tuchas.
Good post. I imagine she has quite a repertoire of looks; the mere mention of being on the receiving end of 'withering' makes me giggle.
Brilliant. I'm lucky as I get let off when it comes to driving. My boyfriend won't let me - he says my driving is too rubbish!
In just 100 words I'm on the bus, sitting right behind you.
Oh, and right back at you. Annie X
Go, kelly!
Kelly's funny! :o) (oops just erased that extra exclamation point that slipped out)
Well, this made me chuckle.
Can you wear bermuda shorts and a straw hat at work, because then you're talking?
i wonder what it looks like when kelly smiles?
j - it's quite something, and fortunately happens a lot, but I couldn't do it justice in a hundred words.
Moannie - after I put that comment on your blog
I received a very funny email.
Maxine - yes, she has a full range of expressions. As I Tweeted recently, she's very much Hobbes to my Calvin.
Very nice.
A comedic duo. Hobbes and Calvin...haha.
Hmm, I wonder how many overseas visitors think Reading is pronounced as in the verb version. When I moan about how hard French is things like this make me realise that English is no easier.
I like them because the most stressful thing to think about is what strange snacks to buy from the Spar type shop and for once in my life I get to read the books I've been wanting to read forever. Also, as you say, you get to eat out all the time- and drink every night and not feel like the government fun inspectors will come and get you in your sleep!
French Fancy - English is far more difficult than French I'm told. Though at least nouns don't have genders.
Rose - Exactly! I particularly enjoyed "Peppies", a cross between Frazzles and polystyrene. Where are you off to, got enough book recommendations?
Loved the "concrete skulls."
Also, I thought you were going to say you could eat out every night and not have to do the dishes. At least that's what I'd be glad about.
America! LA and Las Vegas- not really my choices, I'm tagging along- but will be most excellent for people watching!
Thanks for book recommendations, have ordered Liars and Saints as that seemed to be the first one about that family. We'll see if I get through all these books or just end up sleeping on a sun lounger
